The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House
Opened in 2007, The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House is an 18-bed inpatient facility that caters to hospice patients who need intensive pain and symptom management and support of their terminal illness beyond what can effectively be provided in home or care facility. Inside, a team of trained professionals—physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, aides, chaplains, social workers, grief counselors, and volunteers—provide around-the-clock care. In addition, we have house assistants, housekeepers, and a cook who enhance this home-like setting. It is our goal to stabilize pain and symptoms so the patient can resume hospice care in their home or facility setting.

Located just off Route 1 in Scarborough, Maine, The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House sits in a quiet neighborhood, providing a peaceful setting away from the hustle and bustle with a thoughtfully designed, home-like atmosphere.

Agnes B. Smaha Gallery
The walls of The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House exhibit local artwork as part of the Agnes B. Smaha Gallery, named by her family as a tribute to Mrs. Smaha’s pursuit of painting later in life.
Agnes B. Smaha was born in Lawrence, MA in 1916. She moved to Maine in 1936 with her husband, John M. Smaha where they joined John’s brother in the grocery business and later went on to open their own store in Legion Square, South Portland. Agnes took up painting when she was in her 50s in what was one of the more fortunate random occurrences in the universe. While playing golf, a friend suggested that Agnes join her in taking painting classes from a local artist. This launched a prolific period of art production in her life, which she enjoyed until she was no longer able to hold a brush. She produced many pieces, mostly in oil. Mrs. Smaha died peacefully at The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on December 7, 2011.
