Fifth Grader Warms Hearts with Handmade Blankets on Her Black Belt Journey
Abby Tally, 11, has been working toward her black belt in Taekwondo for the past three and a half years. As part of that process, before donning the black belt, students must perform acts of kindness.
“We had to do something kind, a service project,” explained Abby.
Abby’s mom, Samantha Tally, works for Andwell Health Partners and has talked with her daughter about the work of the organization.
“The volunteer group at Andwell puts together little bags with small blankets and a few other things to give to the new hospice patients,” Samantha explained. “Abby wanted to help bring a little joy to them even though it’s a sad time for most.”
“I thought I could make blankets,” Abby said. “I was just starting to sew and it was fun.”
Samantha said that Abby made eight blankets for the gift bag project.
“These handmade blankets mean the world to our patients,” said Katherine Pushee, RN, MBA, Director of Andwell Hospice. “Volunteers, like Abby, are making a transformational impact for our patients and their families during a difficult time. Volunteers are an important part of the heart of Andwell.”
